contemplating this, especially because i relate more to the healing aspects of art, always brings me to the question if i would call myself an artist. today i would like to share some recent thoughts and feelings in the attempt to find my own answers.
the divine is essentially love, which is an emotion. because we are precious children of the divine we are made of love/emotion too, so am i. deep root emotions are naturally still, not moving, in opposite to feelings which have very busy energetic expressions. both are there, all the time, consciously or unconsciously.
when i started to do emotional/spiritual work to find what i am, i would naturally add painting to the process, because all my life i used pictures rather than words to express myself. i brought the deepest emotions i was working with onto canvas to be with them more intimately. by caring so much for my deepest emotions all the love i had for them could move, which means that love, essentially still, can move through care. and then there is the end product on canvas - a painting!
later i started doing a similiar process not only for my own soulful expressions, but to use my gift to move the love i have for other human beings. i discovered that i can connect soulfully and express the unseen on canvas to support the next step on one's path. and again, after all, there is a painting!
i can never put my name as a signature on these kind of paintings because they feel so intimate in their own way my name on them feels inapt. does that mean i am not an artist or is it more because i use art to heal and that makes it another venue of art?
and last but not least, there are paintings and drawings produced during healing work, sometimes so simple and so rich, soulful expressions that they are the most inspiring. it is my truth that for many it is easier to access yin creativity and express through pictures rather than through words and my passion is to support that process by holding the still love space in which those expressions can move. who is the artist in that case?
everybody consciously or unconsciously expresses from the source of essentially being love and amazing art is created by each unique divine human being, no matter if it allows love, anger, fear or any other hidden emotion to express and be. they all can exist and be embraced simultaneously and are Divine in their essence.
is that the answer to the question what is art and who is an artist’? or does that question even matter?
